If family templates are missing, the Default Family Template File Invalid dialog displays. Download the missing content from local content libraries, or use the web to download them.
To check whether the required content is available locally
- To make sure your anti-virus software doesn't prevent a successful download of the content,
disable anti-virus software. Remember to restart your anti-virus software after installing the content library.
- Open the Windows Control Panel and select Uninstall a Program.
- Select the
Revit content libraries for the version you want to update.
- Do one of the following:
- If the Content Library is not installed (the content list is blank), perform the steps under "To download content using the web".
- If it is available in the list, perform the steps under "To download from local content".
- In Revit, define paths to the content (see the instructions below).
To download from local content
- Select Uninstall/Change.
- After the install wizard launches, select Add/Remove Features.
- In the dialog, select the libraries to install, and click Next.
- After the libraries finish installing, click Finish.
To download content using the web
- Download and extract the desired content using the following links.
- From the Control Panel, select Uninstall a Program (in the Category view) or Programs and Features (in the Icon view).
- Select the Autodesk Revit Content Libraries for the
Revit version you are using.
- Select Uninstall/Change.
- When prompted, click Uninstall and follow the prompts to finish uninstalling the content library.
- Run the original
Revit installer (USB Media or download).
Note: If you don't have the installer, use the Download Now option to download it. Do not use the Install Now option. If you don't see the Download Now option, select the Multi-language version in the drop-down list.
- If the option to uninstall
Revit is unselected, select it.
- Select the drop-down list near the checkbox to control the displayed content.
Note: If the content is missing here as well, that indicates there is an issue with the installer you are using. Try to download and install it again using the Download Now option.
- After you have located and selected the content you want to download, click to collapse the content installer options and click Next.
- Wait for the content to download.
Depending on your internet speed, this could take a few minutes or a few hours.
