After you have installed the Vault Server, you can install the Vault client on any client machine. In addition, you can create a Custom Vault Deployment, and Add and Remove features to existing Vault client installations.
What is the Autodesk Vault Client?
A Vault client is any stand-alone application or integrated add-in that connects to the vault server to access files and perform vault operations.
The Vault clients work with the
Vault Server, sometimes referred to as the Autodesk Data Management Server. The Vault Server must be installed and configured before the clients can access the server.
Note: Vault clients that integrate with an Autodesk design application require a licensed installation of the corresponding Autodesk application. Refer to the hardware and software requirements for each product.

create deployments.
Vault Add-Ins for Supported CAD Applications
Vault Add-Ins for supported CAD applications can only connect (login) to the edition of the Vault Server that matches the edition of the Vault Client from which the Add-Ins are installed.
For example, if you have Vault Basic installed on your workstation, you cannot log into Vault Workgroup or Vault Professional Server from the Vault Basic client or Add-Ins. You must install the Vault Client that matches the edition of the Vault Server in order to log in successfully.
Additionally, the
Vault 2019 CAD Add-ins cannot be installed when a previous version of the add-ins is present. The previous Vault add-ins must be uninstalled in the Programs and Features of the Control Panel.
Before Installing
- Close all Autodesk and Microsoft applications before installation.
- Disable any virus scanning software before installing.
- Make sure that the Vault Client release that you are installing matches the release year of the Autodesk Data Management Server that you installed. For example, if you are upgrading to
Autodesk Vault 2019, both server and client components must be upgraded to the same release year.
Refer to Upgrading Vault for more information.
