When you save an Alias subdivision body or a Maya polygon mesh to an OBJ file, you can easy exchange these objects between the applications.
When transferring these objects between Alias and Autodesk Maya, be aware that:
- G0 creases added by the
Subdivision Crease Edge tool are not supported by Maya.
- Variable creases created in Maya display as uncreased edges in Alias.
Transfer an Alias subdivision body to Maya
- In Alias, select the subdivision bodies you want to transfer.
If you select multiple subdivision bodies, they are combined as a single mesh object when loaded in Maya.
- Choose
File > Export Active as Subdiv.
- Name your new OBJ file.

- In Maya, choose File > Import, and browse to your OBJ file.
- Click Import.
You can now edit the Alias subdivision body as a polygon mesh in Maya.
Note: Because Alias has the Z axis (not the Y axis like Maya) pointing up by default, the model appears rotated on its side in Maya.
