To Save Back Datasets to ArcGIS

If you bring ArcGIS data into a Civil 3D drawing and then modify the objects, you can use the Save Back option in the Data Source Manager to update ArcGIS with your changes.

To save back changes to ArcGIS, you need to have editing privileges, and the dataset needs to be editable. For more information, see About Roles and Privileges Required to Exchange Data with ArcGIS.

Note: To prevent a coordinate offset issue from occurring when you save back to ArcGIS, use a coordinate system that has an EPSG code.

To save back to ArcGIS

  1. Click Insert tab ArcGIS panel Data Source Manager Find.

The Data Source Manager dialog box is displayed.

  2. Select the check boxes next to the datasets that you want to save back.
  3. Click Save Back.

A message dialog box is displayed so you can confirm if you want to save the content back and overwrite the existing data on ArcGIS.

  4. Click Continue to proceed.
  5. If you are not currently signed in to ArcGIS, the sign in dialog box is displayed. Sign in to ArcGIS to continue.

Support for saving back changes to ArcGIS

Some object types that are created by importing an ArcGIS dataset cannot be saved back to the original ArcGIS layer. If you want to be able to save back changes later, you can choose to create the Civil 3D object types that support Save Back when you bring an ArcGIS dataset into a drawing.
