You can export a bill of materials to an external database, spreadsheet, or text file.
- On the ribbon, click
Assemble tab
Manage panel
Bill of Materials .
- In the Bill of Materials dialog box, click Export Bill of Materials.
- In the Export Bill of Materials dialog box, select the BOM view to export. If you select the Structured view, select the data to export.
Note: To include the thumbnail images in the exported file, the Thumbnail column must be included as a column the Bill of Materials dialog box.
- Choose OK to close the Export Bill of Materials dialog box.
- In the BOM Export dialog box, enter the file name, table name, select the type of file to export, and then click Save.
Note: The spreadsheet export options require 32 or 64-bit Microsoft Excel be installed on your computer. If your computer does not meet these requirements, you will receive an error message, "Unable to create file: Database exports require a 64-bit Microsoft Office installation."
The Access, DBF, Text, CSV and Unicode exports require Microsoft Access Database Engine to be installed on your computer, which is part of the Microsoft Office installation. For 64-bit Inventor, you must install 64-bit Microsoft Office in order to export these files. If 64-bit Microsoft Office is not installed, you will receive an error message, "Unable to create file: Database exports require a 64-bit Microsoft Office installation."
Add a bill of materials to the Engineer's Notebook
You can add the bill of materials to the notes in the Engineer's Notebook. The table is added as a note window that links to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
- On the ribbon, click

Manage panel
Bill of Materials .
- In the Bill of Materials dialog box, click Engineer's Notebook.
- In the Insert into Engineer's Notebook dialog box, select the BOM view to export. If you select the Structured view, select the data to export.
- Click OK to close the dialog box.
