Follow these best practices when modeling elliptical walls.
Generally, best practices for walls created with the Ellipse or Partial Ellipse Draw tools follow the same best practices for other wall types. There are some exceptions and some functions that behave differently, as listed below.
The following functions are not currently supported when creating walls using the Ellipse or Partial Ellipse tools.
- You can't create a circular wall using the Ellipse or Partial Ellipse tools. Use the arc wall tool for this instead.
- You can't select an elliptical wall when placing stairs or ramps.
- You can't place a decal on an elliptical wall.
- You can't use chained elements (ellipses) with the Pick tool to create a wall or floor. Ellipse elements must be selected separately.
- Fillet arcs can't be created if one or both walls are ellipses.
- Revit does not currently create an analytical model for elliptical walls.

The following functions work differently than other wall types.
- You can create elliptical
stacked walls only if Wall Centerline is selected in the Offset drop-down in Type Properties
StructureEdit Assembly.
- You can't move the location line after the elliptical wall has been placed. The location line for Elliptical walls must be set at Wall Centerline.
- You can embed a wall in an elliptical wall by picking the elliptical wall. However, you must manually cut the host wall with the embedded wall.
- Sketched boundaries do not constrain, such as when changing the radius of an ellipse wall that has a floor attached.
