Central Processing Unit (CPU) Recommendations

Revit LT is a computationally intensive application that benefits from a high-performance CPU.

When configuring a workstation:

• Select 3+GHz processors with multiple cores.
• You can moderately overclock the CPU for some performance benefits.
Important: Consult with manufacturers to determine safe values of processor overclocking.

Multiple-Core / Multiple processors

As much as a 20% increase in performance is possible in a multi-core or multiple processor environment. The following Revit LT features take advantage of multiple cores:

• Vector printing
• Vector Export such as DWG and DWF
• Autodesk Raytracer.
• Wall join representation in plan and section views
• Loading elements into memory. This reduces view open times when elements display for the first time in a session.
• Parallel computation of silhouette edges (outlines of a curved surfaces) used when navigating perspective 3D views
• Translation of high-level graphical representation of elements and annotations into display lists optimized for a given graphics card. Engaged when opening views or changing view properties.
• Opening and saving files
• DWF Export as individual sheets utilizes multiple processes.
• Color fill calculations are processed in the background on another process.

Every release adds new multi-threaded capabilities and enhancements.

L3 Cache

Because of their substantial performance benefits, Autodesk strongly recommends CPUs that include an L3 cache. Larger L3 caches of 3MB and beyond can provide performance benefits for computationally-intensive operations such as model regeneration.
