Verification Process

The verification process consists in checking if the specified members meet the code requirements.

The verification options can be found in the Calculations dialog of the Steel or Timber Design layout.

Member Verification

In order to identify the point and load case for which the parameter code criteria are the worst, calculations are performed on each member independently during the member verification.

Group Verification

During a group verification, each member of the group is verified.

The calculations consider the material properties that were defined for the group.

Group Design

The group design process is performed for each section family belonging to the analyzed group.

Note: In order to use this option, select at least one group. If you want to run a group design process on several groups, the process remains the same for each group.

Code calculations are performed for consecutive intermediate points of the member, consecutive load cases, consecutive group member elements, and all members making up the group.

During the group design process, the program inspects each section family belonging to the analyzed group, and then eliminates the sections sets that do not meet the code requirements. The elimination of consecutive sections continues until the first section satisfying requirements is found.

The Optimization option enables calculations on groups of members. The program uses these optimization options, to find the optimal section in a group.

Code requirements / Limit states

The verification options depend on the selected design code.
  • Limit states refer to the Ultimate Limit States (ULS) and Serviceability Limit States (SLS). A majority of codes uses these limit states.
  • Code requirements refer to the Strength and Deformation options used by the ANSI 2005 and ANSI 2010. These options are available when the Allowable Strength Design (ASD) method is selected.
Note: If a DAM analysis is active, the analysis verifies the requirements or limit states as follows:
  • The ULS or Strength verification is performed using the ULS or Strength combinations created with the DAM model.
  • The SLS or Deformation verification is performed using the SLS or Deformation combinations created with the Main model.
