Alias 2022.1 Update Release Notes

This update introduces several new features, fixes, and improvements, and addresses many customer reported crashes and issues.

Fixed Issues

General
Resolved performance issues associated with moving objects between layers in large WIRE files (300 MB). ALS-12657
Default Layer now displays in the Paste Options list when Always Ask is turned on in the Paste Options window. ALS-12697
The Exit button now works as expected in the Alias Warning dialog box that displays when no preferences are detected. ALS-13242
Tooltips for the View > Look At and View > Look Around tools now display the correct text. ALS-13040
Alias now correctly assigns the layer folder color to objects when they are moved into a layer in the folder. ALS-12921
The Pick by Shader tool (Pick > Object Types > Pick by Shader) now works with reference objects. Note that for Pick by Shader to work, you must manually assign shaders (Assign Current Shader) to the reference geometry. ALS-13261
Tools that appear on subpalettes, for example tools with a yellow arrow in their top right corner, now properly appear in a custom shelf after they've been added. ALS-12459
Alias no longer displays a "No picked items" message when clicking Goto to the previous picked item () in the Object Lister after you delete the layer containing the object you previously picked. ALS-12897
Zooming in to a point of interest (POI) now works while using the combination of non-proportional view (View > Set Non Proportional View Tool) and Orthographic view. ALS-12685

Modeling
The Blend Curve Editor manipulator now displays correctly on the blend point location. ALS-12980
Fixed an issue that caused CVs on the blend curve to be deselected after clicking on an empty area of the canvas or window. ALS-12981
The orientation of planar surfaces (Surfaces > Planar Surface > Set Planar) now properly aligns to construction planes. ALS-12562
Rail surfaces (Surfaces > Swept Surfaces > Rail Surface) now start at the Gen 1 start and end positions indicated by the in-canvas manipulators. ALS-12623
Fixed an issue that caused an unwanted COS to be created on the untrimmed base surface after deleting a symmetric fillet surface (Surfaces > Multi-Surface Fillet > Symmetric Fillet). ALS-12744
The Curve-to-Curve deviation locator now displays more accurate min (minimum) values. ALS-12820
Fixed an issue with the Surface Fillet tool that causes Alias to crash in some cases when the Flow Control Interior option is set to Edge align. ALS-13644
The Chain Select option in the Multisurface Draft tool no longer fails to select multiple COSs when the draft Type is set to Normal. ALS-13058
The Reference Manager no longer fails to import multiple EDF, NX, IGES, and CATPart files as references. ALS-12887
Subdivision tool construction history is now maintained when you copy and paste a subdivision face to a new stage. ALS-12879
Alias no longer crashes when using the Freeform Blend tool (Surfaces > Multi-Surface Blend > Freeform Blend) to create a blend between a surface and curve. ALS-13384
Resolved a crash related to surface trim (Surface Edit > Trim > Trim Surface) and untrim (Surface Edit > Untrim) operations. ALS-13383, ALS-13429
The Freeform Blend tool (Surfaces > Freeform Blend) now properly updates after changing either the Side 1 Continuity or Side 2 Continuity parameters. ALS-13629
Resolved a crash related to changing the Stitch Offset value when using the Stitch and Seam tool in certain cases. ALS-9566
The Match Parametrization option in the Profile tool (Surfaces > Swept Surfaces > Profile) now creates the right number of CVs in the resulting surface. Note that in Alias 2022.1 Update, the Match Parameterization option has been renamed Rebuild. ALS-12844
Alias no longer crashes when using the pick chooser to select a multi-level instance node. ALS-13074
Selecting a trimmed edge as an input to a blended surface (Surfaces > Multi-Surface > Freeform Blend) no longer causes the input surface to be untrimmed. ALS-13630
Alias no longer crashes when picking a curve while using the Freeform Blend tool. ALS-13245
Alias no longer crashes after adjusting the Freeform Blend tool's Side range values using a Side manipulator. ALS-13634
The Blend Curve tool no longer generates unexpected results if the blend curve is aligned to areas of a trimmed surface with multiple selected trim regions. ALS-13228
Resolved an issue that caused Alias to crash in certain cases when using the Object Edit > Align > Align tool to align two surfaces. ALS-13479
Fixed an issue that caused the Surface Fillet tool to treat two surfaces with G2 continuity as intersecting surfaces rather than as a surface set. ALS-12426
Fixed an issue that caused an unexpected update to surface alignment when importing files from previous versions of Alias. ALS-14251

Visualization
Fixed an issue that caused the Curvature Evaluation diagnostic shader to display incorrectly in certain cases when the Curvature Evaluation Type is set to Princ. Max. ALS- 13078
Box mode no longer remains applied to subdivision objects after you switched between multiple stages, and then turn Box mode off. ALS-12935
Fixed an issue that caused Replace Shaders by Name to clear the shaders assigned to Reference Objects from the Multi-lister. Now Replace Shaders by Name works correctly with reference data. ALS-13029
Revolved surfaces no longer display distortions at the axis center after turning on Diagnostic Shading. This issue is particularly noticeable with the Horizontal/Vertical (Zebra) diagnostic shader. ALS-8814

Data Transfer
Resolved performance issues when exporting to the CATIA V5 file format. ALS-12399

Dynamo
Dynamo Player now loads scripts from mapped drives as expected. ALS-12745
Dynamo Player now maintains selection order when selecting multiple input objects individually (single-click) or by box-selecting. ALS-12822
A new Use Profile Position option has been added to the DP-Subdiv-Sweep.dyn script to resolve this issue. When on, it reverts the parameter flow when the closest point on the Path Curve to the Profile Curve is further away from the start point than half of the arc length of the Path Curve. This option is on by default. ALS-13088

Alias VR
We've simplified the Alias VR Tessellation settings by removing the Limit edge length setting and Max edge length control slider. This has not changed the results of the tessellation operation in Alias VR. ALS-12505, ALS-12863
