Export a canvas plane

You can either export an entire canvas plane as an image or export a single layer as an image. Sliders allow you to resize your image file. You can also export a canvas plane together with 3D objects.

Export a canvas plane

  1. Click the view that contains the canvas plane you want to export as an image.

  2. Choose File > Export > Make Canvas Picture to open the File Browser.

    Note:

To choose the image file format, choose File > Export > Make Canvas Picture to open the Make Picture Options box, choose the image file format (JPEG, ALS, TIFF, 24 bit BMP, or 32 bit BMP), and click Go.

  3. Use the File Browser to enter a name for the image file and click Save.

The image is saved. The default format is TIFF.

    Note:

You can export a canvas plane in 32 bit BMP format, so that the image file contains four channels (RGBA), or in 24 bit BMP format, so that the image file contains three channels (RGB). Many graphics applications cannot read 32 bit BMP files. In these cases, export the canvas plane in 24 bit BMP format or use the imgcvt utility to convert the 32 bit BMP file to a 24 bit BMP file.

Export a canvas plane for use in Photoshop

  1. In Alias, make sure the canvas you want to export is active (by selecting it in the Construction Plane Editor or Canvas Layer Editor, or by painting on it).

  2. Choose File > Export > Make Canvas Picture .

  3. Set File type to psd in the option box.

  4. Optionally, turn on Convert mask to image layer to convert all the mask and invisibility mask layers to image layers, so that they get saved in the PSD file.

Although mask layers and invisibility mask layers cannot be converted directly into layer masks in Photoshop, turning on this option converts them into image layers, and saves them in the PSD file. The layer origin, scale and pixel size are maintained. The resulting image layers have their names prefixed with "msk_" (for mask layers) or "inv_" (for invisibility mask layers) in Photoshop, where you can then convert them to Quick Mask, Layer Mask or Clip Mask. Shape layers and layer folders are ignored.

  5. Click Go.

  6. In the browser, choose the location and name of the PSD file you want to create, and click Save.

Each image layer on the canvas is saved as a layer with the same name in the PSD file. If Convert mask to image layer was turned on, layers created from Alias mask and invisibility mask layers have their names prefixed with "msk_".
