General Improvements

Describes general changes and new features.

New icon sets

We've updated several icon sets in Alias to make them more readable in both the Light and Dark UI color themes. You'll find most of these new icons in the Curve, Curve Edit, and Locator tool palettes.

Clean Up tool update

The Cleanup tool (Delete > Clean Up) now includes a Delete Empty Sets option.

Tracking deprecated, replaced, and removed features, tools, and components

We've added a new topic in the Alias Help to keep you informed about features, tools, and other components we plan to deprecate, remove, or replace each release. We will also place this icon on help topics about features we plan to deprecate in future releases.

For more information, see Deprecated, replaced, and removed features and components.

Auto-load plug-ins using an environment variable

If you created a custom menu that includes plug-ins, you can now have them load automatically by using the new ALIAS_PLUGIN_LIST_FILE environment variable. This way, you do not need to enable them in the Alias Plug-in Manager (Utilities > Plug-in Manager).

Set the value of the environment variable to the location of your AliasPluginList file. For example: ALIAS_PLUGIN_LIST_FILE = E:\Prefs\AliasPluginsList.

In some cases, you may want to save your AliasPlugin file to a network location so that it can be referenced by all team members using the ALIAS_PLUGIN_LIST_FILE environment variable.

For information about custom menus, see Create a custom menu.

General disclaimer

If you are using existing user preferences from an older version of Alias, you may not notice when the default values of options change.

User preferences for Windows are located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Alias\UserPrefs2022.

If the folder does not exist, it is created the first time Alias 2022 launches. The following dialog appears:

Choose Defaults to accept the new default preferences.
