To Support Space Containment in IFC

Space containment is achieved using a location property in the property set definition. Ensure that you have the correct containment information and that the property sets are included in all drawings that contain the object and space before defining it in the IFC file.

This template can be found in the following location: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ACA <version>\enu\Styles\IfcPropertySet_Definitions.dwg.

  1. Open a new drawing and draw an object (such as MV Block - conference table) contained in a space.
  2. Click Manage tabStyle & Display panelStyle Manager.
  3. In the Style Manager, click File Open.
  4. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ACA <version>\enu\Styles and open IfcPropertySet_Definitions.dwg.
  5. On the left pane of the Style Manager, expand IfcPropertySet_Definitions.dwg Documentation Objects Property Set Definitions.
  6. From the property set definition list displayed, right-click IfcSpaceContainment and select Copy.
  7. Right-click the drawing into which you want to copy the style(s), and click Paste.

    The styles or definitions are pasted into the selected drawing. If the drawing already contains a style with the same name, the duplicate name is displayed in the Import/Export - Duplicate Names Found dialog box.

  8. From the property set definition list, select IfcSpaceContainment.
  9. Click the Applies To tab, select the Multi-View Block Reference and click Apply.
  10. Repeat steps 5 to 7, but this time, copy the SpaceObjects property set definitions to your drawing.
  11. Click OK to close the Style Manager.
  12. In the drawing, right-click the space and select Properties.
  13. In the Properties palette, on the Extended Data tab, click Add Property Sets.
  14. In the Add Property Sets dialog box, select SpaceObjects and click OK.
  15. Select the conference table.
  16. In the Properties palette, click Add Property Sets.
  17. In the Add Property Sets dialog box, select IfcSpaceContainment and click OK.
  18. A Property Data Location point is displayed on the conference table.
  19. Select the Property Data Location point displayed on the conference table and drag it to reference the correct space.
Note: Save this drawing file before exporting the file as either the host drawing or an xref.
