To Work With Inferring Geometry From Point Clouds

Infer 2D line or polyline geometry from a point cloud.

Create an Edge from a Point Cloud

  1. Select a point cloud
  2. Click Point Cloud tab Extract panel Edge. Find
  3. Hover over an inferred plane in the point cloud and click to select it.
  4. Hover over the next inferred plane adjacent to the first, and click to select it.
  5. A line is created along the intersection of the two planar segments.

Create a Corner from a Point Cloud

  1. Select a point cloud.
  2. Click Point Cloud tab Extract panel Corner. Find
  3. Hover over a inferred plane in the point cloud and click to select it.
  4. Hover over the second inferred plane and click to select it.
  5. Hover over the third inferred plane that intersects the selected segments, and click to select it.
  6. A point object is created at the intersection point of the three selected planes.

Create a Centerline from a Point Cloud

  1. Select a point cloud.
  2. Click Point Cloud tab Extract panel Centerline. Find
  3. Hover over a inferred cylindrical segment in the point cloud. A preview of the centerline of the cylinder is shown.
  4. Click to place the centerline.

Create 2D Geometry from a Sectioned Point Cloud

  1. Select a sectioned point cloud.
  2. Click Point Cloud tab Extract panel Section Lines. Find
  3. In the Extract Section Line from Point Cloud dialog box, specify the settings for the geometry to be created.
  4. Click Create to extract the underlying geometry of the sectioned point cloud.
