-ATTACH (Command)

From the Command prompt, inserts references to external files such as other drawings, raster images, point clouds, coordination models, and underlays.

You can insert drawings (DWG), and DWF, DWFx, PDF, and DGN files. You can also attach point clouds (RCP and RCS files) and coordination models (NWD and NWC Navisworks files) using this method (not available in AutoCAD LT).

The list of prompts differs depending on the file type you specify for attachment.

DWF and DWFx Underlay Prompts

Path to file

Specifies the location and name of the DWF or DWFx file.

Sheet name

Specifies a sheet name.

?

Specifies multiple sheets.

*

Lists sheets available in the DWF or DWFx file. Use this option if you don't know the name of the sheet.

Insertion point

Specifies where the lower, left-hand corner of the underlay is attached. Click the screen or enter the X,Y coordinates.

Base image size

Displays the height and width of the underlay image.

Scale factor

Specifies the relative scale of the underlay. For example, if you enter a factor of 0.5, the underlay is displayed at half size.

Rotation

Sets an angle of rotation for the underlay.

PDF Underlay Prompts

Path to file

Specifies the location and name of the PDF file.

Page number

Specifies a page number.

?

Specifies multiple pages.

*

Lists pages available in the PDF file. Enter * (asterisk) to find out how many pages are in the file.

Insertion point

Specifies where the lower left-hand corner of the underlay is attached. Click the screen or enter the X,Y coordinates.

Base image size

Displays the height and width of the PDF.

Scale factor

Sets the relative scale of the underlay. For example, if you enter a factor of 0.5, the underlay is displayed at half size.

Rotation

Sets an angle of rotation for the underlay.

DGN Underlay Prompts

Path to file

Specifies the location and name of the DGN file.

Name of model

Specifies a model name.

?

Specifies multiple models.

*

Lists pages available in the DGN file.

Insertion point
Specifies where the lower left-hand corner of the underlay is attached. Click the screen or enter the X,Y coordinates.
Base image size

Displays the underlay’s height and width.

Scale factor

Sets the relative scale of the underlay. For example, if you enter a factor of 0.5, the underlay is displayed at half size.

Rotation

Sets an angle of rotation for the underlay.

Image Prompts

Path to file

Enters the location and name of the image file.

Insertion point
Specifies where the lower left-hand corner of the image is attached. Click the screen or enter the X,Y coordinates.
Base image size

Displays the image’s height and width in units.

Scale factor

Sets the relative scale of the image. For example, if you enter a factor of 0.5, the underlay is displayed at half size.

Rotation

Sets an angle of rotation for the underlay.

External Reference Prompts

Path to file

Enters the location and name of the file you are referencing.

Reference type

Specifies whether to attach this file as an underlay or an overlay. Press Enter to attach the file as an underlay (attachment).

Note: Unlike attached external references, overlaid external references are not included when the drawing is attached or overlaid as an external reference to another drawing.
Insertion point

Specifies where the lower, left-hand corner of the external reference is attached. Click the screen or enter the X,Y coordinates.

Scale

Sets the scale factor of the insertion along the X, Y, and Z axes.

X, Y, and Z

Sets the X, Y, and Z scale factors separately.

Rotate

Sets the rotation angle for the attachment.

PScale

Sets the overall scale factor of the preview display image that displays at the cursor if you specify points on the screen.

PX, PY, and PZ

Individually sets the X, Y, and Z scale factors for the preview display image that displays at the cursor if you specify points on the screen.

PRotate

Sets the rotation angle for preview display image that displays at the cursor if you specify points on the screen.

Base image size

Displays the external reference’s height and width in units.

Scale factor

Sets the relative scale of the external reference. For example, if the base image size is 36 x 24 units and you enter a scale factor of 2, the external reference is inserted at 72 x 48 units.

Unit

Changes the type of units used for the external reference.

Point Cloud Prompts

(Not available in AutoCAD LT.)

Path to file
Specifies the file path and name of the point cloud you are attaching.
Insertion point
Sets where the point cloud insertion point is attached in the drawing. Click the screen or enter the X,Y coordinates.
Scale factor
