Dead joint symbols enable you to specify requirements for dead joint seams fabricated using:
If you specify joint annotation text, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset aligns the text to a horizontal reference line at the end of the leader line. If you do not specify any joint annotation text, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset does not draw a reference line.
You can save the settings of a symbol to the symbol library and reuse the symbol from there. This eliminates the need to re-specify requirements every time you create a symbol. This can be useful, especially in the light of the many types of joints the dead joint symbol supports.
Drafting standards prohibit the use of multiple leaders on dead joint symbols, so AutoCAD Mechanical toolset does not allow you to use the AMSYMLEADER command on dead joint symbols. Furthermore, because the joint type is specified on the leader itself, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset does not allow you to create symbols without a leader as well. On the leader line, you can drag the grip point adjacent to the leader symbol to change its position along the leader. AutoCAD Mechanical toolset ensures that neither the leader arrow nor the all around designation (if one exists) are overlapped.
