To Create a Local Annotation View of an Xref Component, in a Layout (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

  1. Click Structure tabBuild panelNew. Find The New dialog box is displayed.
  2. Click the Annotation View tab.
  3. In the Component section, select the Create annotation view of option and from adjacent the drop-down list, select the xref component you wish to create an annotation view for.
  4. In the Annotation view name box, change the name for the annotation view, if required.
  5. In the Placement section, select the Layout option and from the adjacent drop-down list, select the Layout you want to place the annotation view.
    Note: To place the annotation view in a new layout, select Create new layout.
  6. If you want AutoCAD Mechanical toolset to suggest a scale to use, in the Paper size list, select the paper size that corresponds to the area you wish to place the annotation view in, if not in the View scale list, select the scale.
    Note: The paper size you specify here need not be the actual paper size, but a paper size that corresponds to the area that the annotation view will occupy. For example, if your paper size is A3 and you want to place two annotation views within the paper, you can set the paper size to A4 (because A4 is half the size of A3) since it is the affective area the annotation view occupies.
    To set a base point for the annotation view:
    1. Click . The dialog box hides.
    2. In the drawing area, select a base point for the annotation view.
  7. To label each view of the component being annotated, select the Create label for all subviews check box.
  8. Click OK. The dialog box closes and the command line prompts you to place views in the drawing area and a preview of the view to be inserted is shown at the cursor.

    To insert the displayed view, click in the drawing area to indicate the insertion point.If the displayed view is incorrect, type V until the appropriate view is displayed, and then click to indicate the insertion point. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all views are placed in model space correctly.

  9. Press Enter to accept the default rotation or enter the new rotation angle.
  10. Repeat steps the last 2 steps until all views are placed in the drawing area.
  11. Type D and press Enter. A new annotation view is created and displayed in the browser.
