In this workflow, you draw parts in the same drawing file as the assembly.
You then use Part References (AMPARTREF command) to tag geometry as parts. The BOM counts the Part References and lists them in the BOM dialog box as parts. When you create balloons for the drawing, the balloon leader points to the Part Reference, enabling you to correlate the geometries with parts lists quickly.
Part references enable you to specify the component properties of each part. The BOM automatically picks up this information and lists the properties in the BOM dialog box as well as parts lists.
The AMPARTREFEDIT command provides an option to display the Assembly Properties dialog box. This dialog box enables you to specify component properties for the entire drawing. Use this dialog box to specify the component properties of the assembly.
