Structure Catalog Palette (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

Use the Structure Catalog to manage the definitions of mechanical structure objects in a drawing. You can also use it to manage xref operations for mechanical structure.

External Drawings tab

Displays the names of drawing files accessible from your computer and displays the mechanical structure definitions and previews as appropriate.

Files

Displays drawing files and the hierarchy of folders on your computer and network drives, including My Computer and My Network Places. Right-click files and folders to display a menu containing the operations that can be performed on the clicked item.

Details

Mechanical Structure

Displays a tree containing icons, which shows the hierarchy of the definitions of structure (components, component views, folders and annotation views) of the file selected in the files panel. If the selected file contains an external reference (xref) subassembly, only the subassembly is displayed. Components collected under the subassembly are not displayed.

Drag a component view or folder on to model space to insert a new instance of an xref component view or folder, based on the definition you dragged. If you drag with the CTRL key pressed, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset copies the component view or folder instead of inserting it as an xref. Right-click any item to display a menu that lists the operations that can be performed on the clicked item.

Preview

Displays a preview of the geometry of the definition selected in the Mechanical Structure panel. If a component that has multiple views is selected, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset displays the previews of up to six views. If nothing is selected in the Mechanical Structure panel, displays a preview of the drawing selected in the files panel. If the selected item is an xref component or folder, no preview is displayed.

Favorites tab

Displays the names of drawing files that have been bookmarked as favorites and displays the mechanical structure definitions and previews as appropriate.

Files

Displays drawing files and the hierarchy of folders on your computer and network drives, including My Computer and My Network Places. Right-click files and folders to display a menu containing the operations that can be performed on the clicked item.

Current Drawing tab

Displays a tree showing the definitions of mechanical structure entities in the current drawing. It also shows a list of files that are referred to in the current drawing.

File References

Displays the source files that contain the definitions of the components/folders you have inserted to the current drawing as xrefs.

Sets the File Reference pane to a list view. The listed information includes:

Version

Displays the version of the file in the vault. The version column is preceded by a column that shows an icon that indicates the status of the file in the vault.

File name

Displays the name of the referenced file. The host drawing name is always displayed first. The tooltip displays the full path to the file.

Status

Displays the status of the referenced file. Possible statuses are:

  • Loaded -Currently attached to the drawing.
  • Unloaded - Unloaded or marked to be unloaded from the drawing once the structure catalog is closed.
  • Needs reloading - File has changed since it was loaded.
  • Unreferenced - No components or folders from this file exist in the current drawing and can be safely detached.
  • Not Found - No longer exists in the valid search paths.
  • Unresolved - Cannot be read by AutoCAD Mechanical toolset .
  • Orphaned - Attached to another xref that is unresolved.

Size

Displays the size of the attached file.

Date

Displays the date when the referenced file was created or last saved.

Saved path

Displays the location that the host drawing expects the referenced file to be found.

Sets the File References pane to a tree view. The tree depicts the levels of nesting of file references within xrefs. The top-level of the tree view always shows the current drawing. Referenced files appear at the next level. Referenced files that contain their own nested file references can be opened to show deeper levels. When making selections in tree view, only one file reference can be selected at a time.

Mechanical Structure

Definitions

Displays a tree containing icons, which shows the hierarchy of the definitions of mechanical structure entities (inclusive of xref components and folders) contained in the drawing that is currently opened.

Drag a component view or folder to model space to create and insert a new instance of the dragged definition. Right-click any item to display a menu that lists the operations that can be performed on them.

Preview

Displays a preview of the geometry of the entity selected in the Definitions panel. If a component that has multiple views is selected, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset displays the previews of up to six views. If the selected component or folder is unresolved, no preview is displayed.
