To create a new document

To create a new part document:

  1. Select File > New.
  2. Select the type of your part from:
    • Mill for 2.5D or 3D milled parts. Select this type for 5-axis positioning as well. This is only the type of your first setup.
    • Turn/Mill for turning that supports live tooling.
    • Swiss Turn for Swiss lathe turning using a sliding head stock.
    • Vertical Mill/Turn for a vertical mill/turn machine. This creates two Setups automatically, Setup1 is a turning Setup and Setup2 is a milling Setup.
    • Wire EDM for a 2-axis or 4-axis wire EDM part.
    • Multiple Fixture for laying out multiple parts on the table. You can mix different milled parts for multiple part manufacturing.
    • Tombstone Fixture for a Tombstone Machining part.
    • Machine Design for a Machine Design document. Use this document to create a machine tool model for simulation.
Note: The part types available depend on which FeatureCAM license you have.
  3. Select the Unit of Measure to model parts, features, and tools in inches or millimeters.
  4. Select how you would like to set up your stock. Select from:
    • Wizard — Select this option to use a wizard to guide you through the process of creating stock. This option is best for novice users.
    • Properties — Select this option to edit the stock properties directly without using the wizard.
    • None — Select this option to use the default stock properties. You can edit the stock later.
  5. In the Copy Machining Configurations From list, select a machining configuration to copy settings and default attributes from other documents, from your standard configuration, or from the FeatureCAM defaults.
  6. Click Save options as default if you want to use the same settings every time you create a new document.
  7. Click Create New Document.
