Open Pocket features

You can machine an open Pocket from outside the stock by using a Side or Face feature. This enables you to reduce tool wear by avoiding unnecessary plunging.

Open pocket using Pocket feature:

Open pocket using Side feature:

To create a Face feature to machine an open pocket from outside the stock:

1. In the New Feature wizard, select Face or Side.
2. Select Extract using feature recognition.
3. Click Next.
4. For a Face feature, select the horizontal surface of the pocket.

   For a Side feature, select the vertical side surfaces of the pocket.

5. Click Finish.
6. On the Strategy tab of the Feature Properties dialog, select Rough pass to include a roughing operation.
7. Select a Stepover type of Vortex or NT Zigzag.
8. Click OK to close the Feature Properties dialog.
