To Create Vault, Single-User, or Legacy Projects

You can create an Autodesk Vault project, a single-user project, or a legacy project type (Semi-isolated Master, Semi-Isolated Workspace, Shared).

After you create the project, you can open it in the project editor to set further options.
Note: We recommend that you use Autodesk Vault Basic to manage multi-user projects. In the Project wizard, Semi-isolated and Shared project types are unavailable by default. If you require legacy projects types, click Tools tab Options panel Application Options General tab. Select the Enable creation of legacy project types.
  1. Select File Manage Projects.
  2. In the Projects dialog, click New.
  3. In the Project wizard, do one of the following and then click Next:
    • Select New Single User Project.
    • Select New Vault Project.
    • For a legacy project, click either New Shared Project or New Semi-Isolated Master Project.
  4. Do one of the following and then click Next:
    • For a single-user project, name the project and specify its location in Project (Workspace) Folder.
    • For a vault project, name the project and specify the project location.
    • For a legacy project, name the master project, and specify the project location in Project (Workgroup) Folder.
    • Make sure the project location you specify is a new, empty folder. By default, the Project wizard creates a folder for the project file (.ipj), but if you browse to a different location, the located folder name is used.
  5. Select existing libraries, add them to the project, and then click Finish.

This option is unavailable for semi-isolated workspace projects, which inherit libraries from the semi-isolated master project.

  6. If you are creating a vault project, enter the following information:
    • Server. The name of the computer housing the vault where this project is added. Can be a computer name or an IP address.
    • Database. Identifies the database that the vault project uses.
    • Name. The name of the vault where this project is added.
    • Vault Project. The name of this project, preceded by $/. Match to the name you entered in the Project wizard.
    • Virtual Folder. Optional. The location of the folder used to publish data to share with customers. Place it on a common server, and map with a UNC path (for example, \\Server\\Share\).
  7. (Vault projects only) Click Save to save the project file, and then click Cancel to close the dialog box.
Note: You can leave any settings blank, except the Virtual Folder. It is entered automatically the first time you successfully log in to the vault.
