View degrees of freedom in assemblies

The degrees-of-freedom symbol shows the remaining degrees of translation and rotation for one or more selected components or the active assembly.

To view degrees of freedom for selected components

1. Click one or more parts in the browser or graphics window.
2. Right-click and select iProperties, and then click the Occurrences tab.
3. Select the Degrees of Freedom check box, and then click Apply.
4. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.

To turn off the degrees of freedom symbol, clear the Degrees of Freedom check box.

To view degrees of freedom for active subassemblies or top-level assembly

1. Double-click the subassembly or top-level assembly in the browser or graphics window to activate.
2. On the ribbon, click View tab Visibility panel Degrees of Freedom .

To turn off the degrees of freedom symbol, repeat the previous steps and clear the Degrees of Freedom check mark.

Note: If the selected component is constrained relative to an underconstrained part, a cube appears on the degrees-of-freedom symbol. To highlight the relative part, hold the cursor over the cube until it changes color. The faces of adaptive parts which have degrees of freedom remaining are displayed in a contrasting color when you hold the cursor over the cube. Adaptive parts that use cross part references do not show any degrees of freedom.
