Populate bolted connections

  1. Select the bolted connection placement to activate the right side of the dialog box.
  2. Select the Click to add fasteners option on the right side of the dialog box to connect to Content Center and view fasteners. This selection populates the bolted connection.
  3. Specify the Standard and Category of the fastener to narrow the selection.

To change the fasteners in the designed bolted connection

  1. Select the fastener .
  2. For a larger selection of fasteners in the selected category, select to open the Table dialog box.
  3. To change the bolt length, select bolt and hold the Alt key while opening the dialog box, to access the Modify length/hole dialog box. This option is available for bolts only.
Attention: Bolted Connection Generator does not know the condition or reason why you selected a fastener. In the Table dialog box, you might select a bolt because it has a specific material. When you change a diameter value, the generator automatically selects a bolt that meets this new criteria but does not reflect the earlier change you made in the Table dialog box. To select a fastener with a specific material, select the fastener in the Table dialog box again.
Note: The Table dialog box is not available for holes.

Calculate bolted connection

  1. On the ribbon, select the Design tab Fasten panel Bolted Connection .
  2. In the Design tab, design your bolted connection.
  3. Switch to the Calculation tab.
  4. Use the drop-down list to select the type of strength calculation.
  5. Enter the calculation values. Change the values and units directly in the edit fields.

Perform fatigue calculation

  1. To perform fatigue calculation, select the Fatigue Calculation tab .
  2. Select the Enables/Disables fatigue calculation command in the upper-right corner of the Calculation tab to enable the Fatigue Calculation tab.
  3. Select Calculate.
  4. Calculation results display in the Results area. The inputs that fail the calculation are displayed in red (the value does not correspond with other inserted values or calculation criteria). Reports of the calculation display in the Summary of Messages area displayed after selecting the chevron in the bottom right of the Calculation tab.
  5. If the calculation indicates design compliance, click OK.
