Cone Brake Calculator dialog box

Calculates the braking torque, forces, pressures, basic dimensions, and necessary time and revolutions for stopping. Use to design and calculate cone brakes.

Note: Only constant braking torque is taken into account.

Force

Select the input and output parameters.

f, D, F T

Calculate Torque according to Friction Factor, Outside Diameter and Input Force.

f, T, D F

Calculate Input Force according to the Friction Factor, Torque, and Outside Diameter.

f, T, F D

Calculate Outside Diameter according to the Friction Factor, Torque, and Input Force.

T, D, F f

Calculate Friction Factor according to the Torque, Outside Diameter and Input Force.

Friction Factor

Enter the value or click the arrow next to the edit field to select the coefficient in the table.

Brake Torque

Enter the value of the Brake Torque.

Input Force

Enter the value of the Input Force acting on the brake.

Outside Diameter

Enter the value of the Outside Diameter.

Inside Diameter

Enter the value of the Inside Diameter.

Schema

 

Displays the scheme of the selected brake. Enter the value of the Cone Angle.

Pressure

Calculate Break Pressure according to Width, Length, and Input Force.

b, l, p F

Calculate Input Force according to Width, Length, and Break Pressure.

b, p, F l

Calculate Length according to Width, Break Pressure, and Input Force.

Number of Brakes

Enter the value of the Number of Brakes.

Width

Enter the value of the brake width.

Length by Angle

Select the option and enter the value of the Length by Angle.

Length by Arc

Select the option and enter the value of the Length by arc.

Brake Pressure (Max.)

Calculated value of the Brake Pressure. Enter the maximum allowable limit value to the second field.

Brake Pressure.Speed (max.)

Calculated value of the Brake Pressure times Speed. Enter the maximum allowable limit value to the second field.

Energy

 

Enter the parameters. Click the arrow in the Start Energy box to input parameters and calculate the start energy in the Start Energy dialog box.

T t

Calculate Brake Time according to Brake Torque.

Start Speed

Enter the value of the Start Speed of the braking element.

End Speed

Enter the value of the required End Speed.

Start Energy

Enter the value of the Start Energy or click the arrow next to the edit field to open the Start Energy dialog box where you can enter extra parameters such as Moment of Inertia, Revolutions, and so on.

Brake Time

Enter the value of the Brake Time.

Results

 

Displays the calculated values.

Summary of Messages area

Displays reports about calculations. To open the Summary of Messages area at the bottom of the tab, double-click the double line at the bottom of tabs or click the chevron.
