Note: Inventor files need to be migrated to the current release in order to be opened. If the file fails to open, you see clickable error messages that you can copy and paste.
Open in Inventor View
- Click File Open.
- In the dialog box, select the appropriate file type.
- Browse to the folder that contains the Inventor file.
- Select the part from the list.
- To open the file, double-click the Inventor file name in the list, or click Open.
Note: You can also open a file by right-clicking a file in the Inventor View browser, and then selecting Open from the menu.
Open through Windows Explorer
Note: If you open a file in a folder that is not part of the project, you are required to resolve the links. We recommend that you add the paths for all files to the project before you work on them.
- In Windows Explorer, right-click an IAM (Inventor Pro only), IDW, or IPT file.
- Select Open With, and then specify Inventor View as the application to open the file with.
When the file you open is missing data, is an older version than Inventor View supports, or is corrupt, an error message displays. Click Yes to continue opening the file, or click No to decline. If you continue opening the file, it does not always display correctly.
