To Rotate Text in a Sketch

Change its orientation for improved alignment with sketch geometry.

Use the following ways to rotate sketch text:

Tip: Use Geometry-Text to add or edit geometry-aligned text in a part or drawing sketch.

Rotate text in the Format Text dialog box

The Format Text dialog box enables you to rotate text by 90, 180, or 270 degrees.

  1. On the ribbon, click Place Views tab Sketch panel Create Sketch to enter the sketch mode.
  2. On the ribbon, click Sketch tab Create Panel Text .
  3. Click a point in the drawing to place text. The Format Text dialog box is displayed.
  4. In the Format Text dialog box, select an option from the Rotation list.
Note: The Rotation option is enabled only if Text Box is not selected.
  5. Enter text in the text field and click OK. Text is placed to the selected point and rotated as specified.

Rotate text by Rotate sketch command

The Text Box must be enabled before using the sketch Rotate command.

  1. Edit an existing sketch with text.
  2. Select the text object and right-click. Select Text Box on the menu.
  3. On the ribbon, click Sketch tab Modify panel Rotate .The Rotate dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the text object to rotate.
  5. Specify the rotation center point.
  6. Specify the rotation angle in the Angle field and click Enter, or click a point in the drawing.
  7. Click Done to close the Rotate dialog box.

Constrain text to a sketch geometry

You can rotate sketch text by selecting the text box and geometrically or dimensionally constraining it to other sketch geometry.

Example: Place text at 125 degree angle

  1. In a drawing file, enter sketch mode, and select Text.
  2. Type My company, and click Text Box to place a text box around the text, then click OK.
  3. Draw a line and use General Dimension to place the line at a 125 degree angle.
Note: Set lines to Sketch Only so they are not visible on the drawing after exiting the sketch mode.
  4. Apply a Fixed constraint to the line. Click Sketch tab Constrain panel Fix , and then select the line.
  5. Apply a Parallel (or collinear) Constraint. Select Parallel (or collinear) constraint, select the text, and then select the line.

The text rotates to 125 degree angle.

  6. Right-click the text, and clear the Text box check box.
  7. Finish sketch.
