About the Bill of Materials

Create a BOM table to represent database information about the components in an assembly.

A BOM (Bill of Materials) is a table that represents database information about the components in an assembly. This table includes quantities, names, costs, vendors, and other information someone building an assembly requires.

The information presented in the table is collected from the iProperty values of the part and subassembly components. You can create properties to populate the table columns. For example, you can create a custom column titled Painted with a Yes or No table value.

Tip: Edit the Bill of Materials in the Assembly template to customize the column property fields.

Bill of Materials Workflow

Add information to the iProperties of components to define material, part number, and other information. This information appears in the corresponding Bill of Materials column when you access the Bill of Materials command.

Push information from the Bill of Materials to the iProperties of individual components by editing the row in the Bill of Materials.

For example, when you specify the material property of a component in the BOM, the information is saved to the part file.

A Parts List is a drawing file representation of the iProperty values and the Bill of Materials information. The Parts List is configured to provide the information required for the manufacturing drawing.
