Design bearings

Insert bearings

There are various ways to insert a bearing. Here is the most typical:

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel Bearing .
  2. On the Bearing Generator, Design tab:
    • Select the shaft cylindrical face and start plane. The shaft diameter value is automatically inserted on the Design tab.
    • Select the type of Bearing from Content Center. To open Content Center, click the arrow next to the Family/Category edit field.
Note: You need to be connected to the Content Center server to be able to select bearings. Also, your Content Center must be configured.
Note: We recommend you select Family.

On the right side of the Design Tab, you can also specify the values of Filter dimensions for Bearing Outside Diameter, Shaft (bearing inside) Diameter and Bearing Width. You can either enter the values manually or you can click the arrow to measure the dimension in ProdName assembly. If you decide to enter the filter dimensions, enter starting and ending values of the range. You can enter the same value for starting and ending filter value.

    • According to your selection (Family/Category) and specify bearing filter values, the list of bearings that matches the criteria displays in the lower area of the Design tab.
    • In the list, click the appropriate bearing. Your selection displays in the field above the selection list and OK is available.
  3. Click OK.

Before you click OK and insert bearings into an ProdName assembly, you can switch to the Calculation tab to perform a calculation and strength check. The calculation is performed when you click Calculate.

The beginning workflow can vary. First, select the type of bearing, and then specify ranges for outside bearing diameter, shaft diameter, and bearing width. The selection of a shaft cylindrical face is the most logical because then the values for shaft diameter are inserted automatically in the Bearing Generator. You don't also need to specify all value ranges, for example, the bearing width. When a list of bearings is presented, you select the appropriate bearing.

Calculate bearings

  1. On the ribbon, click Design tab Power Transmission panel Bearing .
  2. On the Design tab, select the bearing.
Note: You need to be connected to the Content Center server to be able to select bearings. Also, your Content Center must be configured.
  3. Switch to the Calculation tab.
  4. Select method of strength calculation.
  5. Enter the calculation values. You can change the values and units directly in the edit fields.
  6. Click Calculate to perform the calculation.
  7. Calculation results are displayed in the Results area. The inputs that fail the calculation are displayed in red (their value doesn't correspond with other inserted values or calculation criteria). The description of unsatisfactory results is displayed in the Summary of Messages area which is displayed after clicking on the chevron in the right lower part of the Calculation tab.
  8. Click OK.

Edit bearings

  1. Open the ProdName assembly with the already inserted Design Accelerator bearing.
  2. Select the bearing, right-click to display the context menu and select the Edit Using Design Accelerator command.
  3. Edit the bearing. You can change the type of bearing (different family or category), bearing dimension (outside, shaft diameter, width) or recalculate values. If you changed calculation values, click Calculate to view the strength check. Calculation results are displayed in the Results area. The inputs that fail the calculation are displayed in red (their value doesn't correspond with other inserted values or calculation criteria). Reports of the calculation are displayed in the Summary of Messages area.
  4. Click OK.
