To Create Drawing Views Based on Presentation Snapshot Views

Use snapshot views stored in a presentation file to create drawing views. The drawing views keep links to the source snapshot views, and are updated when you edit the snapshot views in the presentation file.

Create Drawing View

The Create Drawing View command always results in a new drawing. Additional methods for drawing view creation or addition are discussed below.

  1. In a presentation file, create a snapshot view to use as a source for a drawing view, and save the presentation file.
  2. In the Snapshot View panel, right-click the snapshot view, and click Create Drawing View.
  3. In the Drawing Template dialog box, select a drawing template to use to create a drawing file, and click OK.

A drawing opens, and the IPN file and the snapshot view are preselected in the Drawing View dialog box. A preview of a drawing view based on the snapshot view displays in the graphic window.

  4. In the Drawing View dialog box:
    • Select Associative to keep a link between the drawing view and the snapshot view.

When Associative is selected and you edit the snapshot view, your edits are propagated to the drawing.

    • Set the Show Trails option to show or hide trail lines in the drawing view.
  5. Click OK to insert the view in the drawing.

To Add a Drawing View to an Existing Drawing

Use the standard Drawing method for adding views.

  1. Open the drawing.
  2. Start the Base View command.
  3. In the Drawing View dialog box, select a presentation file, and select a snapshot view as the source for the drawing view.
  4. Place the view and specify any settings as needed.
  5. Click OK.
