Worm Gears Generator dialog box - Calculation tab

This tab extends the Design tab. Calculates generator data based on selections in the Design tab.

Access:

Ribbon: Design tab Power Transmission panel Worm Gear and click the Calculation tab.

Method of Strength Calculation

Specifies the type of strength calculation you want to use. The strength calculation dialog box opens when you click Factors at the bottom of the Calculation tab.

Note: The Factors dialog box is available for ANSI and CSN calculation.

Loads

Specifies loads and calculates the strength proportions which calculate forces, moments, and speeds from the specified input power, number of revolutions and gearing efficiency.

Material Values

Warning: Strength parameters of material are determined empirically and reflect minimum values applicable for a group of materials. Although these values are close to the values obtained using measurement of particular materials, we recommend in cases of final calculations you use parameters of material in accordance with the material sheet or specifications of the producer.

Material

Specify your own material values or select a material from the Material Database.

If a material is selected from the Material Database, its values are inserted into the following five edit fields, and the edit fields are locked. To unlock the field clear the check box.

Bending Fatigue Limit

Specifies allowable bending stress.

Contact Fatigue Limit

Specifies allowable contact stress.

Worm Material Coefficient

Specifies coefficient of change of allowable stress.

Inputs

Required Life

Click the arrow next to the edit field to select the values from a table.

Factors

Opens the Factors dialog box to specify Factors.

Note: The Factors dialog box is available for ANSI and CSN calculation.

Accuracy

Opens the Accuracy dialog box to specify accuracy values.

Displays additional options for worm gear design. To display the More Options area, click More in the right lower corner of the Calculation Tab.

Type of Load Calculation

Power, Speed Torque

Calculates the torque according to the power and speed.

Torque, Speed Power

Calculates the power according to the torque and speed.

Power, Torque Speed

Calculates the speed according to the power and torque.

Type of Strength Calculation

Check calculation

Performs a strength check calculation.

Material Design

Calculates the minimum material values that satisfy the strength condition of the current strength calculation.

Geometry Design

Designs the (smallest) geometry according to the strength check.

Limit Values

Minimal Factor of Safety

Specifies the minimal required safety in contact and bending.

Results

To display the Results area on the right side of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line on the right or click the chevron.

The area displays the calculated values and the key strength check. Values are calculated when you click Calculate.

The units of the results values can be changed. Double-click the specified value you want to change.

Summary of Messages

Displays the reports about calculation. To open the Summary of Messages area at the bottom of the Calculation and Design tabs, double-click the double line at the bottom of tabs or click the chevron at the bottom of the tabs.
