Grip Snap Options Reference

These options provide control over Grip Snap command behavior.

These options, which are tied to the Application Options, remain set across Inventor sessions until you change them.

Access:

  • Activate the Grip Snap command, right-click and select Options from the menu.
  • Click Tools tab Options panel Application Options General tab. In Grip Snap, click Options.
  • Activate the Grip Snap command and make the first selection. In the browser, right-click and select Options from the menu.

Select grounded components/work geometry Specifies whether to include in a selection set to move or rotate, components and/or assemblies that are grounded within an assembly. If not selected, grounded components are not included in the selection set, and do not move or rotate. By default, the option is not selected.

Use temporary constraints Specifies whether to use transient constraints during multiple manipulations of the same selection set. By default, the option is selected.

Display object in original location Specifies whether to maintain a static reference image of the selection set while transient graphics represent the translation or rotation in drag and snap and reference geometry workflows. By default, the option is selected.

Show degrees of freedom for selected components Specifies whether to add boxes to the end of the HUD for translational and rotational degrees of freedom related to the active component or assembly selection. By default, the option is selected.

Use free drag as default mode Specifies whether to use the free drag option for each geometry type, skipping the step to select Free Drag from the Grip Snap move options. When selected, the move options are not displayed, and you can select and place a component or assembly directly. Click the TAB key to toggle the move options on and override Free Drag for the next operation. By default, the option is not selected.
