To Edit Tube and Pipe Interchangeability Set and Assembly Configuration

An iAssembly factory may contain a number of configuration members. If you must work on one specific iAssembly member regularly, it is helpful to set it as the default configuration. The design in the default iAssembly member is displayed every time the top assembly is opened.

The tube and pipe interchangeability set is not created until you apply the Make Adaptive command to a non-adaptive master runs assembly in the configuration workflow. The set must contain more than one master runs assembly member so it can be swapped in for the appropriate configuration. A master runs assembly member can only be adaptive once in the iAssembly factory. The verification process helps you highlight the configuration rows involved in a problem.

With regard to BOM properties, you may want to set one master runs assembly to reference structure. Since a master runs assembly may be suppressed, you can also define the BOM quantity property for tube and pipe design in an appropriate configuration.

Access the tube and pipe assembly configuration table

  1. Activate the top assembly.
  2. In the Model browser, do any of the following:
    • Double-click Table.
    • Right-click Table and select Edit Table.
    • Right-click Table and select Edit via Spread Sheet.
    • Expand Table, right-click a configuration member, and select Edit Table.

In the iAssembly Author dialog box, the configuration table displays all the iAssembly members.

Set the default configuration

  1. With the top assembly active, open the iAssembly Author dialog box and go to the configuration table.
  2. Right-click a configuration member and select Set As Default Row.

The default configuration row appears in light green.

Activate a tube and pipe assembly configuration

  1. Activate the top assembly.
  2. In the Model browser, do either of the following:
    • Double-click Table.
    • Expand Table, right-click a configuration member, and select Activate.

Set the BOM properties for the master runs assembly member

  1. With the top tube and pipe iAssembly factory active, open the configuration table.
  2. In the iAssembly Author dialog box, BOM table, expand the master runs assembly. Tube & Pipe Runs is the default.

The BOM QTY for each master runs assembly member is listed. They have the same BOM structure.

  3. Do any of the following:
    • Select the master runs assembly in the candidate objects list and click to add BOM properties for the entire tube and pipe interchangeability set to the configured objects list.
    • Select BOM Structure [Default] and click .
    • Select BOM Qty for the appropriate configuration and click .
  4. In the BOM Qty column, enter an appropriate quantity number.
  5. After you have completed all other Inventor iAssembly properties, click Verify to validate the assembly configuration. For instance, if a master runs assembly member corresponds to more than one adaptive row, the configuration table presents the visual feedback in yellow.
  6. Click OK.

Include or exclude the master runs assembly from an iAssembly member

  1. With the top tube and pipe iAssembly factory active, open the configuration table.
  2. In the iAssembly Author dialog box, Components table, expand the master runs assembly. Tube & Pipe Runs is the default.
  3. Do either of the following:
    • Select the master runs assembly in the candidate objects list and click to add all status for the master runs assembly to the configured objects list.
    • Select Include/Exclude [Include] and click .
  4. In the appropriate configuration row, click the Include/Exclude cell, and select the appropriate status.
  5. Click OK.

Swap in a master runs assembly member for the appropriate configuration

  1. With the top tube and pipe iAssembly factory active, open the configuration table. Ensure that the tube and pipe interchangeability set is already created with at least two master runs assembly members.
  2. In the appropriate configuration row, click the appropriate Table Replace cell, and select a specific master runs assembly.
Note: A master runs assembly member can only be adaptive once in the iAssembly factory.
  3. Click Verify to validate the assembly configuration.

If a master runs assembly member corresponds to more than one adaptive row, the configuration table presents the visual feedback in yellow.

  4. Click OK.

Verify the tube and pipe assembly configuration

When you have completed all the iAssembly factory properties, you must verify whether they are valid. For instance, a master runs assembly member can only be adaptive once in the iAssembly factory and the BOM Qty column can only contain a number or a string of Default.

  1. With the top tube and pipe iAssembly factory active, open the configuration table. Ensure that the tube and pipe interchangeability set is already created with at least two master runs assembly members.
  2. In the iAssembly Author dialog box, configure the appropriate iAssembly factory properties.
  3. Click Verify to validate the assembly configuration.

If errors occur, the configuration table presents the visual feedback in yellow.

  4. Click OK.
