You can merge FBX data from a file or from the Asset Browser with the current scene. You can choose to merge or append the following:
- Scene elements such as characters, cameras, lights, shaders and more.
- Animation from characters, bones, cameras and more as well as animation layers.
- Settings for camera and lights.
- Takes
Note: When merging a file into the scene, the Story ON/OFF mode from the incoming file overwrites the Story ON/OFF mode set in the scene.
You can choose to merge an
.fbx,
.3ds,
.dae, or
.obj file with the current scene,
When you merge a file, you can choose to apply namespaces or reference edits. See
Merge Options windows.
- MotionBuilder provides the following methods of merging an
.fbx file with the current scene: Select File > Merge from the MotionBuilder menu bar. See
Merge a scene file.
- Drag an
.fbx file from the Asset browser into the Viewer window and select Merge from the context menu that appears. See
Merge a scene file.
Both methods let you select the assets, settings, and takes that are merged, appended, and replaced.
Note: When you merge scenes with animation set on multiple layers, keyframes set on the BaseAnimation layer are merged (but not plotted) to the BaseAnimation layer. However, other layers are added to the scene as additional layers and these layers are not merged. The result is the same whether you merge-append or merge-replace the scenes.
