Mesh Settings

Specify the DED-specific features of the mesh.

Elements per Heat Source Radius controls mesh density. For stress and distortion simulations, values of 1–2 are reasonable.

Fine Layers Below Heat Source specifies the number of layers that are kept fine, and not adapted below the heat source. A few layers are required to capture the evolution of plastic strain, but once the build moves up higher, the layers are eligible for coarsening. The default value of 4 is a good compromise between accuracy and speed.

Adaptivity Levels specifies the maximum number of coarsening generations in the mesh, primarily in X and Y directions, with higher values (up to 6) producing a coarser mesh.
