Expression Editor example

This example demonstrates how to use the Expression Editor when working with retained expressions in the Model Area Clearance strategy dialog.

  1. Click View tab > Window panel > User Interface > Expression Toolbar to display the Expression Editor.
  2. Click in the Thickness field on the strategy dialog.
  3. Click in the Expression Editor's field (the field becomes green) and enter the expression tolerance*4.

  4. Click to calculate the expression.

    Ensure the expression is displayed in the expression field. If the value is displayed, click to display the expression.

  5. Click to accept the expression. This displays the expression value in the Thickness field, where a blue border signifies that the field has a retained expression:

  6. Enter 0.5 in the Tolerance field. PowerMill automatically updates the Thickness to 2.

    PowerMill retains the expression and updates the Thickness value whenever you change the Tolerance.

Editing an existing expression

Editing an existing expression is similar to creating an expression.

  1. Display the expression in the Expression Editor using one of these methods:
    • Right click in the parameter field and select Edit expression; or,
    • Click inside the parameter field and then click inside the expression field on the Expression Editor.
  2. Edit the expression.
  3. Click and then click .
