To modify the feedrate for specific toolpath regions

You can modify the feedrate of a machine tool in specific regions of milling toolpaths. Reducing the feedrate on sharp corners, such as blade edges, can improve the quality of the surface finish.

You can only modify the regions of a toolpath which contact a surface in a Level or Set.

To modify the feedrate of a toolpath region:

  1. Right-click on an individual toolpath and select Edit > Update Feedrate On Chosen Surfaces to display the Surface feed rate dialog.
  2. Use the options in the Surfaces area to specify the surfaces where the feedrate is modified. Any toolpath contacting these surfaces is machined at the modified rate.
    • — Click to create a new Set.
    • — Select a Level or Set from the list that contains the surfaces where you want to modify the feed rate.
    • — Click to place the selected surface components into the selected Level or Set.
    • — Click to remove the selected surface components from the selected Level or Set.
  3. Enter an absolute value for the Modified feed rate.
  4. Enter a Transition distance over which the modified feedrate is blended back to the Cutting feed rate.
  5. Click Apply.
