Multiple cuts

Use the Multiple cuts page to enable multiple finishing passes down the tool axis. The available options are dependent on the selected strategy:

Mode —Select a mode to determine how the multiple passes are created.

• Off — Creates a single profiling path.
• Offset Down — Offsets the top profile, moving down.
• Offset Up — Offsets the bottom profile, moving up.
• Merge — Offsets the top and bottom profile, merging from one to the other.

Order by — Select whether machining takes place by Region or by Level.

• Region — When selected, one region (such as a pocket or boss) is completely machined before going on to the next. So, pockets are machined in preference to levels.
• Level —When selected, one level is completely machined before going down to the next. So, levels are machined in preference to pockets.

Maximum number of cuts — Select tolimit the number of passes when creating a toolpath with multiple cuts. Enter a value to specify the limit.

Upper limit — Select this option to specify the maximum height above the surface of the highest segment that the toolpath can be raised. Above this limit, the toolpath segments are removed.

Maximum stepdown — Enter the maximum distance between successive passes. This option is not available if the Mode on the Multiple cuts page is set to Off.

Set stepdown from tool — Click to automatically define the stepdown from the tool geometry.

Swarf finishing options

The method to specify the upper limit is different for Swarf Finishing strategies:

Upper limit — Select the position to measure the upper limit from:

• Top — The limit is the offset distance measured from the top edge of the surface.
• Bottom — The limit is the offset distance measured from the bottom edge of the surface.
• Workplane — The limit is the offset distance measured from a specified workplane.

Workplane — Select the workplane which the upper limit is measured from. This option is available only if you select an Upper limit of Workplane.

Offset —Enter the distance of the upper limit measured from the geometry specified in the Upper limit field.

Wireframe profile options

The method to specify the upper limit is different for Wireframe Profile strategies:

Type — Select how to define the upper limit.

• Curve — The curve forms the highest position of the toolpath. If you have a Lower limit - Base position of Curve then you must have either a Lower limit - Axial offset or an Upper limit - Offset or both, otherwise the lower and upper limits are identical.
• None — The base position is offset to form the highest portion of the toolpath. Neither the curve nor the model limits the top of the toolpath.
  Note: You must specify the Maximum number of cuts.

Offset — Enter the maximum offset of the curve, along the tool axis. This option is available only if you have a Type of Curve.
