Blanking and Grid options

Use the Blanking and Grid page of the Options dialog to specify the appearance of the grid, and options for blanking items.

  1. Click File > Options > Application Options > View > Blanking and Grid.
  2. Use the following options to specify the blanking and grid settings:

Blanking

Unblank items when model opened — Select this option to display blanked items when you open a model.

Show blanked objects ghosted — Select this option to display blanked items as grey instead of being fully hidden.

Grid

Grid type — Select whether to draw the grid as ruled or dotted lines.

Maximum number of lines — This value represents the maximum number of horizontal and vertical grid lines. The default number of grid lines in each direction is set to half the screen resolution. If you request a grid of more than 1000 lines in each direction, a warning is displayed to indicate the large number of lines may cause the grid to draw slowly.

User defined scale — Select this option to lock the grid scale to the current user-defined value. Deselect this option to adjust the grid scale as the view is changed.

Shaded plane — Select this option to display a shaded plane representing the current active workplane, if the grid is switched off.

Automatic principal plane — Select this option to set the principal plane based on the viewing direction. The principal plane will be set to be at right angles to the axis you are looking down. So, if you are looking down the Z axis, the principal plane will be changed to XY.

Automatic Principal plane in multiple views — Select this option to have a principal plane related to the viewing axis as follows:

An ISO view has an XY principal plane.
