Component Libraries options

Use the Component Libraries page of the Options dialog to define how component libraries are used.

1. Click File > Options > Application Options > Assembly > Component Libraries.
2. Use the following options to specify the Component Library settings:

• This model is a component library — Select this option to save the active model as components in the component library.

  If you select this option:

  • A thumbnail image of the definition is saved in the model.
  • The Query for deleting unused component definitions is not displayed.
  • You can use the Open Component Library dialog and the Component Library window to create components.

• Search paths for component libraries — This window shows the list of paths that are searched for component libraries.

  The path to the component library that was used by an assembly is stored with the assembly. If, when required, the component library is no longer at the stored location, the paths that are specified in this window are searched for the required component library. When using the default settings, no search path is initially included.

  You can change the search list by using the associated buttons:

  — Click this button to add a new path to Search paths for component libraries using the Browse For Folder dialog. Select the path to add to the list of search paths.

  — Click this button to remove the selected path from the list.

  — Click this button to move the selected path up in the search order.

  — Click this button to move the selected path down in the search order.

  To replace a selected path:

  1. Double-click a path in the window.
  2. Select a replacement path from the Browse for Folder dialog.
• Add thumbnails of the active model definitions - Select this option to add the thumbnails of the component definitions for the active model to the component library window when opening, updating or closing a model. The thumbnails of the old active model are removed from the window.
• This model is a protected original - This gives more control over updating rights on the standard component libraries. If selected, you cannot:
  • update the original definitions from the dependent models.
  • save the updated model to the protected original. You are given the opportunity to save the model to another name, using Save As .

  Default view direction for thumbnails - Select a view direction from the list to set the orientation of the component definitions that are shown in the component library window.
