Splice Connections for hollow sections are available for structures using the Eurocode 3 (EN 1993-1-8:2005/AC:2009) or the Polish standard PN-90/B-03200.
Circular hollow sections
Four verifications are performed in order to verify the resistance of circular hollow sections in tension:
- Complete end plate yielding.
- Bolt failure with end plate yielding.
- Bolt failure.
- Weld.
Rectangular hollow sections
Three verifications are performed in order to verify the resistance of circular hollow sections in tension:
- Bolt failure with end plate yielding.
- Bolt failure.
- Weld.
Calculation methods for bolt placement
Two parameters are required in order to set up the bolt placement:
- The first parameter corresponds either to the distance from the vertical edge of the plate (e2H), or along an arc spacing (P2).
- The second parameters corresponds either to the distance from the horizontal edge of the plate (e1V), or its vertical spacing (p1).
If a value is entered for the parameter
e2H, then the program calculates the adequate value for
P2, and vice-versa. In the same manner, if a value is entered for the parameter
e1V, then the program calculates the adequate value for
p1, and vice-versa.
The following calculation methods are used.
Bolts arranged around a plate edge
|
Bolts arranged along a section edge only
|
e2H= 0.5*(lp-(nH-1)*p2)
|
e2H= 0.5*(bi-(nH-1)*p2)
|
p2= lp-2*e2H/(nH-1)
|
p2= bi-2*e2H/(nH-1)
|
e1V= 0.5*(hp-(nV-1)*p1)
|
e1V= 0.5*(hi-(nV-1)*p1)
|
p1= hp-2*e1V/(nV-1)
|
p1= hi-2*e1V/(nV-1)
