Cut Objects by Plane

Follow the steps below to edit or cut objects such as bars or contours along a cutting plane.

To access the Cut by Plane dialog, click Edit Cut by PlaneCut by plane.

To divide the edges of an object

  1. In the Cut by Plane dialog, select Divide contour edges.
  2. Specify the Cutting plane definition in either of the following ways:
    • Select an axis: XY, YZ, or ZX, and then select a point of origin for your cutting plane.
    • Select arbitrary, and then select three points on the model to specify a customized cutting plane.
Note: Alternatively, enter the coordinates of the three points in the Point 1, Point 2, and point 3 boxes.
  3. In the Objects to be cut box, enter the identification number of the objects that you want to cut, or select them in the drawing area.
  4. Click Apply, and then click Close.

To create nodes where an object and the cutting plane intersect

  1. In the Cut by Plane dialog, select Create nodes at intersections.

To split all the objects that intersect with the cutting plane

  1. In the Cut by Plane dialog, select Split objects.

To cut off all objects on a specific side of the cutting plane.

  1. In the Cut by Plane dialog, select Cut off.
  3. When a question mark appears in the drawing area, click on the side of the cutting plane where objects should be deleted.
Note: Alternatively, specify the side of the cutting plane where you want to delete objects in the Side to Cut off box.
  4. In the Objects to be cut box, enter the identification number of the objects that you want to cut, or select them in the drawing area.
