About Excel Templates for Buildingbook

Learn the guidelines for creating and modifying Buildingbook Excel templates for Revit.

For each project standard and each evaluation type, Buildingbook offers predefined export forms.

Customization

Important: If the template file is improperly edited or corrupted prior to the export process, the area evaluation to Excel will not be performed. Be sure to customize duplicate copies of the templates and not the original installed templates.
To customize the Excel template file, the following rules must be considered:
  • You can only customize rows 1 - 5 in columns C and greater. Changes applied outside this range can corrupt the inner structure of the template.
  • In rows 1 - 5 in columns C and greater you can:
    • Add, change, and delete text.
    • Add graphics and logos.
  • You can add headers and footers to the page layout.
  • You can define different export templates for different projects.
  • Cell text and sheet names starting with a $ (dollar) sign are program-internal identifiers which must not be changed!
  • Do not add or delete columns.
  • Do not add or delete rows.
  • Do not add or delete sheets.
  • The predefined Excel template files (*.xlt) can be copied, modified and saved with a new name. Make sure that you save the modified file with a unique name and do not overwrite the default. Save customized templates to the same directory as the base templates.
  • Do not use special characters in file names.
