Linking Analysis and Design Applications

You can link projects to an analysis and design software, through an Application Programming Interface (API). Within the API, you can make size changes and geometric modifications to your model. These changes can include member deletion, member relocation, or member additions.

Once they are confirmed in the analytical software, they can imported back into Revit. All views, including structural plans, elevations, sections, and detail sheets are updated according to changes that you import into Revit. In addition, some internal analysis software parameters are imported into Revit.

Click Add-Ins tab External panelExternal Tools drop-down Send Model to export a model fromRevit to analysis software.

The application programming interface (API) starts.

Note: The External panel is only available after an approved third party analysis software has been installed. See the following Autodesk web page for more information: http://www.autodesk.com/revitstructure-partners

Sending updates from analysis software to Revit

You can open the analysis software with the API, or write to an export file for later use. When the API opens the software and runs your model, the API also returns you to your Revit model and updates it.
