About Architectural Columns
You can use architectural columns to model column box-outs around structural columns and for decorative applications. Architectural columns inherit the material of other elements to which they are joined.
About Cut Patterns for Engaged Columns
If you join a wall and an architectural column, and the wall has a coarse-scale fill pattern defined, the joined column assumes that pattern.
Add a Column
You can add columns in plan views and 3D views. The height of the column is defined by the Base Level and Top Level properties, as well as offsets.

Attach a Column
Columns do not automatically attach to roofs, floors, ceilings, and foundations. When you select one or more columns, you can attach them to roofs, floors, ceilings, reference planes, structural framing members, isolated foundations, foundation slabs, and other reference levels.
Detach a Column
If you have attached columns to roofs, floors, or other elements, you can use the Detach Top/Base tool to reverse the attachment.
