A rail extension is defined in the type properties for a continuous rail. To access the type properties, select the top rail, and click Edit Type on the Properties palette.

The shape of the rail extension is determined by the Extension Style and Length properties. In this example, a Post extension style is specified for this rail type.

You can modify the shape of a rail extension by editing the rail path and using the sketch edit tools. Editing the sketch creates an instance override for the top rail.

With the top rail still selected, click Edit Rail on the Continuous Rail panel. Then, on the Tools panel, click Edit Path.

When editing, you may find it helpful to display the Workplane Viewer. This 3D viewer allows you to edit all elements hosted on the current workplane. On the Work Plane panel, click Viewer.

Use the direct manipulation controls and the sketch edit tools on the Draw panel to edit the extension shape.

On the Mode panel, click Finish twice to exit rail edit mode. The unpin icon displays to indicate that an instance override has been made to the continuous rail.

If you want to reset the rail to the specifications in the type properties and remove the instance override, click Reset Rail on the Continuous Rail panel.
