Migrate from Server-Based Worksharing to File-Based Worksharing

You can save a local server-based workshared model as a new central model for file-based worksharing on a local area network.

For example, a company has team members from multiple offices working on the same project and they need to share content. Office A uses server-based worksharing, and Office B uses file-based worksharing. A team member from Office A can save the model from the server as a file-based workshared model to a shared directory where a team member from Office B can access it.

To save a server-based (local or central) model as a file-based central model

  1. Open the server model or a local copy that has been updated.
  2. Click File tab Save AsProject.
  3. In the Save As dialog, specify a file name and directory location for the central model.

When you save the central model, ensure it is saved to a network drive to which all team members have access.

  4. In the Save As dialog, click Options.
  5. In the File Save Options dialog, select Make this a Central Model after save.
  6. You can also save a server-based central model as a file-based central model.
