Perform Frequent Backups of One or More Models

For server-based worksharing, you can use this method to back up models several times a day.

To avoid user interruption, do not place locks on the models during backups. If you use this method, some of the backup versions may be out of sync.

Note: Lock a model before restoring it from this backup data. Then when the model is unlocked, the integrity of the restored model is checked. If the model is not self-consistent, it is automatically repaired and restored to a previous full version.

To back up the model

  1. Locate the models to back up. A model is stored as a folder with the same name as the central model.
  2. Without locking the server, copy the folders to another location.
  3. Follow your organization's standard processes and use standard backup tools to back up the file as desired.

To restore the model

  1. Open the Revit Server Administrator, and navigate to the Revit Server Host where the model resides.
  2. Select the model and click (lock).

Team members cannot access a locked model.

  3. Restore the model from backup.
  4. Select the model and click (unlock).

If the restored model is incomplete when you unlock the model, you are informed that the model is reverted back to its last complete version.

  5. Notify team members to create the new local model from the restored backup.
