Video: Using the Space Naming Tool

The Space Naming tool assigns the names and numbers from architectural rooms to MEP spaces used for building performance analysis.

This video demonstrates the following:

  1. Turn on room bounding for the lined model.
  2. Place and tag spaces.
  3. Rename spaces using the renaming tool.
Note: This video was recorded using Revit 2017. When using a newer software release, you may notice differences in functionality and user interface.

Use the space naming tool when you want to assign the room names and numbers from a linked architectural model to the spaces in a Revit MEP model.

In this example we will open an MEP model that has a linked Architectural model. In the type properties dialog make sure the constraints for the linked model are set to enable room bounding. Next place spaces automatically in the MEP model and tag them. Finally use the space naming tool to replace the space names and numbers with the room names and numbers from the linked architectural model.

When you use the space naming tool you can choose to assign names from rooms only, numbers only, or rooms and numbers. You can also control whether to name spaces on all levels or specific levels in the model. If a room name or number changes in the architectural model, use the naming too to update the spaces in the MEP model.

The space naming tool eliminates the time consuming task of having to manually enter the room name and number for each space in a Revit MEP model.
