About Circuit Naming

Use this pane to define custom circuit naming schemes. Circuit naming schemes enable you to tailor the way that the Circuit Number property of a circuit (and devices) is defined.

You can assign a default circuit naming scheme for your model by selecting a scheme in the By Project - Circuit Naming Scheme drop down. Use the Circuit Naming instance parameter to assign a circuit naming scheme. The By Project - Circuit Naming Scheme is used when the panel's instance parameter is set to By Project.

Default Circuit Naming: Select a default circuit naming scheme for the current model.

• Click (New scheme) to create a circuit naming scheme. In the Circuit Naming Scheme dialog, select parameters, prefixes, suffixes, and separators to define the scheme.
  • You add and remove parameters by moving them between the panes:
    • Highlight a parameter in the Circuit Naming Scheme parameters pane and click (Add Parameter) to move it into the Circuit Naming Parameter pane.
    • Highlight a parameter in the Circuit Naming Scheme pane and click (Remove Parameter) to move it into the Circuit Naming Parameter pane.
  • (Optional) Include a shared parameter.
    1. Click (Add Parameter).
    2. In the Parameter Properties dialog, click Select and select the parameter to add to the label.
    3. Click OK twice.

       The selected parameter displays in the Category Parameters list.

    4. Select the parameter from the Category Parameters list and click (Add parameters to label).
       Note: If you do not specify a filter parameter for the tag, the tag can attach to any component. Select a filter from the drop-down list for the Filter Parameter field, in the lower-right corner of the dialog.
  • Optionally, you can add a prefix, suffix, or sample value to the parameter.

    The sample value displays in the Preview at the bottom of the dialog, so that you can edit as needed.

  • By default, a slash (/) displays as the separator between combined parameters.

    You can specify a different separator symbol in the Separator cells.

  • In the Circuit Naming Scheme Name field, enter a name for the combined parameter.
  • Click OK to save the Circuit Naming Scheme.
• Select a circuit naming scheme from the list and click (Delete scheme) to remove a circuit naming scheme.
• Select a circuit naming scheme from the list and click (Edit scheme) to edit a circuit naming scheme.
