Specify Segments and Sizes

Segments and sizes displays a table of pipe sizes available in a project.

Pipe sizes are hierarchical, grouped and displayed in the table according to pipe segment. Pipe segments are used to define routing preferences for pipe. Each pipe segment includes a material and schedule/type combination, a roughness, and a range of sizes.

Pipe Segment
Material Schedule/Type Roughness (default)
Copper K, L, M 0.00010"
Iron, Ductile 22, 30, Class 150, Class 200, Class 250, Class 300, Class 350 0.01020"
Polyvinyl Chloride, Rigid 40, 80 0.00010"
Steel, Carbon 40, 80 0.00180"
Stainless Steel 5S, 10S 0.00180"

When a specific segment is selected, only roughness for that segment can be specified. The size catalog lists the sizes for the selected segment.

You can select how specific segments are used in a project. In the table, for a specific segment, select:

Pipe Size information cannot be edited in this table. You can add and remove pipe sizes, but you cannot edit the attributes for an existing pipe size. To change the settings for an existing size, you must replace the existing pipe (delete the original pipe size, then add a pipe size with the desired settings).

Adding a Pipe Size

  1. Click New Size.
  2. In the Add Pipe Size dialog, enter values for Nominal Diameter, Inside Diameter, and Outside Diameter to specify a new pipe size, and click OK.

Deleting a Pipe Size

  1. Select a pipe size in the table.
  2. Click Delete Size.

Add a Pipe Segment

  1. Optionally, select the segment from which to inherit the size catalog.
  2. Click (Create New Pipe Segment) beside the segment list to open the New Segment dialog.

A new segment requires a new material, a new schedule/type, or both.

  3. In the New Segment dialog, select Material, Schedule/Type, or Material and Schedule/Type.
  4. When creating a material, click (Browse) to open the Material Browser, otherwise select a material from the list.
  5. When creating a schedule/type, enter a name, otherwise select a schedule/type from the list.
  6. Select a size catalog to duplicate the sizes from.
  7. The segment name is generated based on the information from the material and schedule/type.

  8. Click OK.

Remove a Pipe Segment

  1. Select a segment from the Segment list.
  2. Click (Delete Pipe Segment).

A segment cannot be deleted if it is in use in a project or if the selected segment is the only one specified in a project.
